Question:Exactly what zone are we in? There seems to be some discrepancy - I thought Richmond was in 7a - yes or no? Thanks much. Marianne gmdmmrussell@verizon.netAnswer
For the most part, Richmond is in USDA Zone 7A. With this said, we have areas in Richmond and the surrounding counties that are "microclimates",and may be warmer or colder than 7A. Some areas receive the protection and warmth from surrounding buildings and can be considered Zone 8, while some outlying areas can be as cold as Zone 6. To be safe, when researching for plants, I would recommend using Zone 7 as your guide.
