5 Step Rose Care Plan

  1. Plant new roses using a high-quality soil such as Meadows Farms Planting Mix or any other good soil that is high in organic matter. Plant with a good starter fertilizer like Espoma Organic's Bio-tone Plus to encourage strong root formation. Water thoroughly.
  2. In early March, fertilize existing roses with your favorite rose fertilizer. We recommend Espoma Organic's Rose-tone which naturally helps with root growth and blooming.
  3. A systemic insecticide such as Bayer Advanced All-In-One Rose and Flower Care will kill sucking insects for up to 6 weeks.
  4. When new leaves appear, treat roses with a rose and flower dust, a ready-to-use insecticidal spray, or another round of Bayer Advanced All-In-One Rose and Flower Care to control both insects and diseases.
  5. Throughout the growing season, use a water soluable fertilizer every 7-14 days, or use a granular ferlizer every six weeks.

Helpful Hints

  • Avoid watering roses from the top.
  • Always cut flowers just above the first five-leaved leaflet.
  • Remove dead blossoms to encourage new blooms.
