Aralias

MING ARALIA and other Aralias

There are very few plants as beautiful as the Ming Aralia (Polyscias fruticosa), with feathery, lacy green leaves on arching branches with dark mottled stems.  This graceful shrub is native to the Pacific Islands.  While this is the most popular of the indoor aralias, other varieties also make attractive houseplants.  One old favorite, that is not a true aralia but is often included due to its appearance, is the False Aralia (Schefflera dizygotheca elegantissima).  Aralias can be easily pruned to control their size and shape, and can even be kept to a reasonable size for bonsai.

These popular plants prefer bright indirect light to direct morning sun, and should dry slightly before watering, always providing good drainage.  Aralias are cold sensitive, and temperatures should be maintained above 65ºF to avoid leaf drop.
