Outdoor Farmers Market

It's the 4th year of our outdoor, open-air Farmer's Market! 

EVERY THURSDAY from 10am - 2pm

2012 is the 4th season for the Huguenot-Robious Farmers’ Market at The
Great Big Greenhouse.  This is an outdoor, week day, open-air market in
the heart of North  Chesterfield County.   This year the market runs every Thursday 10:00 to 2:00 from April 5 – October 25.

      
Our mission is to create a venue where market patrons meet the farmers and artisans who grow their food and create their masterpieces and to educate patrons about the
benefits of locally grown produce and products.

                     
New this year is that we plan to do more free educational seminars pertaining
to plants and gardening.  In addition, we will host a plant clinic by the
Chesterfield Master Gardeners on the second Thursday of each month.  And we
are working with the local elementary schools to host field trips so that our
“young gardeners” can learn from our vendors more about gardening and where our
food comes from.  

                      
Here is a list of vendors this year:

Agriberry is a CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) specializing in berries and fruit. People buy “shares” at the beginning of the season. Every week they come by and pick up a box filled with fresh seasonal fruit. They also have berries and fruit to sell at the market.

Appletree Cake Company - Jan Butterfield specializes in delicious gluten-free baked goods.  Moist, rich, and flavorful.  Come by for a free sample!

Bavarian Gourmet Nut Company of Virginia has addicting cinnamon glazed almonds and pecans. 

Big Daddy's Barbeque specializes in Carolina-style barbeque, Memphis-style ribs, and applewood smoked chicken salad as well as burgers, hot dogs and fresh Hanover tomato BLT's in season.  They can fix lunch while you wait or pack up larger containers to take home.

Camp Swampy Honey sells local raw honey and bee products.  The owner, Wilson Braithwaite has sevreal hives in and around the area.

Dirty Apron Catering Company offers frozen casseroles and fresh, ready-to-go single entrees as well as four gourmet sauces from which to choose - Chili Ranch, Bourbon Ginger, Louisiana Hot Sauce, and Pesto.

Sam Goin of Goin Family Farms sells antibiotic/hormone- free pastured raised beef.  His wife, Roz, sells her fresh baked pies, tarts, and pound cakes.

The Holy Grail of Sorbet sells homeade sorbet in assorted fruit flavors.

Lar-Lyn Farms, located in Dilwyn, Virginia (right next door to Farmville) is owned and operated by Larry and Lyn Nead.  They sell a variety of local produce.

Lightfoot's Creative Carpentry has wood crafts-birdhouses, wine bottle holders, jewelry boxes, rocking horses, etc.

Limeades and More - Ken offers hand-squeezed limeades and lemonades made to your taste.

Marcia Germain is an artist who does beautiful charcoal and pastel sketches-portraits while you wait or more detailed pictures to pick up later.

Mary Robertson sells handcrafted necklaces, bracelets, and earrings as well as offering wines from Grayhaven Winery, located in Gumsprings, Virginia

Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen sells amazing handmade sour dough donuts, made fresh as you wait, as well as homemade fudge.

Olde Virginia Dip Company - Okie Davis has herb dip and cheeseball mixes as well as a variety of fresh-baked cookies.

Pleasant Fields Farm, owned by Mildred Rudolph, is located in Hanover County and carries a wide variety of produce - including those delicious Hanover tomatoes.

Graham Grove of Sun Grove Studios carries original cast stone small lawn decor.

Tone Del Papa is a photographer who has travelled all over the world and offers matted prints of his works.

Truda Lee Quilts - Truda carries beautiful handmade quilts, as well as quilted postcards (yes, they can actually be sent through the mail) and other fabric crafts.  Her mother comes along to the Market to add her gorgeous spiral knit scarves and lovely crocheted necklaces.

Walnut Hill Farm is located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and carries a wide variety of produce as well as fresh Virginia pecans.

Wild Heaven Farm carries delightfully fragrant goat's milk soaps and lotions.
